ACETONE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics

Acetone is a colorless, volatile liquid with a characteristic sweet odor, represented by the chemical formula C3H6O. It is widely used as a solvent in the manufacture of plastics, synthetic fibers, and pharmaceuticals. Acetone is also used as a cleaning agent, particularly for removing nail polish and adhesives. It is produced industrially by the cumene process or as a byproduct of the production of phenol. Acetone is highly flammable and should be handled with care to avoid ignition. In addition, prolonged exposure to acetone can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory system. Proper ventilation, personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to safety guidelines are essential when working with acetone. It should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat sources and incompatible substances. Always refer to the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for detailed safety and handling instructions.
