Ammonium lactate is a white crystalline compound with the chemical formula (NH4)C3H5O3. It is used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries as an exfoliating agent and moisturizer. Ammonium lactate is also employed in the manufacture of biodegradable plastics. It is relatively non-toxic but can cause skin and eye irritation upon contact. Proper handling and storage are essential to ensure safety.
