Carbon monoxide, also known as CO or carbon oxide, is a colorless, odorless gas generated through incomplete combustion of carbon-based fuels such as gasoline, natural gas, and coal. It is also used as a feedstock in certain industrial synthesis processes. In chemical compatibility evaluations, carbon monoxide exposure should be reviewed for rubber O-rings and gaskets used in sealed systems, particularly under pressure or elevated temperatures. While CO is not corrosive in dry conditions, system design and material selection remain important.
