These chlorine-based solvents are commonly used for vapor degreasing, metal cleaning, and chemical processing operations. In chemical compatibility evaluations, the addition of moisture can increase acidity and corrosivity, significantly affecting rubber O-rings and gaskets. Certain rubber materials may experience swelling, embrittlement, or accelerated degradation under wet chlorinated solvent exposure. Careful material selection, compatibility testing, proper ventilation, controlled storage, and appropriate PPE are essential to maintain safe operation and long-term performance of O-rings, rubber seals, and gaskets.
