CHROMIUM POTASSIUM SULFATE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Chromium potassium sulfate, commonly called chrome alum or potassium chromium sulfate dodecahydrate, with the formula KCr(SO4)2·12H2O, is a dark purple crystalline salt used in leather tanning, textile dyeing as a mordant, and laboratory processes. Although considered relatively low in toxicity, exposure may lead to skin or respiratory irritation. In processing systems, compatibility with O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components should be evaluated to reduce degradation risks. Proper storage, safe handling procedures, and appropriate PPE are recommended.
