Decahydronaphthalene, commonly known as decalin, is a colorless liquid hydrocarbon with the chemical formula C10H18 that is widely used as a solvent and processing aid in chemical manufacturing. Although considered relatively low in acute toxicity, decalin can still irritate the skin and respiratory system with direct exposure. In sealing environments, O-rings, rubber components, gaskets, and certain plastics should be evaluated for compatibility, as decahydronaphthalene may cause swelling or softening in some rubber materials.
