DICHCLOROBUTANE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Dichlorobutane, commonly referred to as butylene dichloride and identified by the formula C4H8Cl2, is a colorless chlorinated solvent with a mild odor used in chemical manufacturing and as a process intermediate. Because of its solvent characteristics, material selection for O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components should be reviewed to limit swelling, hardening, or loss of mechanical properties. While generally regarded as relatively low in toxicity, contact may irritate skin and the respiratory tract. Proper storage, controlled handling, and suitable PPE are advised.
