FURALDEHYDE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Furaldehyde, commonly known as furfural with the formula C5H4O2, is a colorless to yellow organic liquid with a mild odor used as a solvent, in resin production, and as a chemical intermediate. In industrial equipment, furfural may come into contact with O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components, so compatibility should be evaluated to reduce the risk of swelling or material degradation. Although considered relatively low in toxicity, exposure may cause skin and respiratory irritation. Proper storage, safe handling procedures, and appropriate PPE are recommended.
