HEXAMETHYLENE (CYCLOHEXANE) Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics

Hexamethylene, commonly referred to as cyclohexane, is a saturated cyclic hydrocarbon with the molecular formula C6H12. It is a colorless, flammable liquid with a mild, detergent-like odor. Cyclohexane is widely used as an industrial solvent and as a raw material in the production of nylon, adipic acid, and caprolactam. It is also employed in the manufacture of paints, varnishes, and other coatings. Cyclohexane is relatively stable and inert, making it a preferred solvent for non-polar substances. Inhalation of its vapors can cause dizziness, nausea, and central nervous system effects, while prolonged exposure may result in liver and kidney damage. Handling cyclohexane requires proper ventilation and personal protective equipment to minimize exposure risks. Its role in the production of essential materials and its solvent properties highlight its importance in various industrial applications.
