HEXONE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Hexone, more commonly known as methyl isobutyl ketone or MIBK, is a colorless, flammable liquid with the chemical formula C6H12O widely used as an industrial solvent. It is commonly used in paints, coatings, varnishes, adhesives, and in the extraction of certain metals, as well as in the production of rubber chemicals and resins. Exposure to hexone may cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. In systems containing MIBK, O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components should be evaluated for chemical compatibility, as ketone solvents can affect certain rubber materials. Proper handling, storage, ventilation, and protective practices are recommended.
