TETRAHYDROTHIOPHEN Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Tetrahydrothiophene, commonly abbreviated as THT and also known as thiophane, is a colorless liquid with the chemical formula C4H8S widely used as an odorant in natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas systems. Its strong odor allows gas leaks to be detected quickly before hazardous concentrations develop. THT is also used as a solvent and intermediate in chemical and pharmaceutical synthesis. In equipment where THT is present, O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components should be evaluated for chemical compatibility because sulfur compounds can affect certain rubber materials. Proper handling, storage, ventilation, and protective practices are recommended.
