Parker’s KA183-85 is an 85 Shore A black HNBR compound engineered specifically for low-temperature sealing in energy, oil, and gas applications where conventional elastomers lose elasticity. Designed to remain flexible down to -58°F (-50°C) while supporting continuous service up to approximately 300°F (149°C), KA183-85 maintains sealing integrity in subsea, surface, and cold-environment installations. The hydrogenated nitrile formulation provides strong resistance to hydrogen sulfide, corrosion inhibitors, steam, methanol, oils, and high-pressure CO₂ exposure. Its high durometer, combined with excellent tensile strength, modulus, and elongation, delivers strong extrusion resistance and reliable performance under pressure cycling.
KA183-85 has passed extensive anti-explosive decompression and sour gas testing, including NACE TM0192 and NACE TM0297, making it suitable for demanding NORSOK-style sour gas environments. It is commonly used in subsea systems, valves, packers, and pressure-containing components where cold rebound and chemical durability are critical. This compound addresses the gap between low-temperature flexibility and high-pressure performance in oil and gas sealing. Canyon Components offers equivalent low-temperature HNBR materials designed to match the cold performance, AED resistance, and mechanical strength of Parker KA183-85 for energy and industrial sealing applications.
