Canyon - Ultrasonic Bath Procedure (Rev 3)

Canyon’s Ultrasonic Bath Procedure (Rev 3) outlines a controlled cleaning process used to remove contaminants from precision components prior to packaging or further processing.

Canyon’s Ultrasonic Bath Procedure (Rev 3) outlines a controlled cleaning process used to remove contaminants from precision components prior to packaging or further processing. The procedure begins with reviewing customer requirements, followed by optional cleanroom preparation to achieve ISO Class 5 air quality when specified. The ultrasonic tank is then cleaned and filled with either a customer-specified solution or a standard 90% distilled water and 10% isopropanol mixture, ensuring proper fluid levels and compatibility with materials such as polyurethane. Parts are placed in baskets, fully submerged, and cleaned under defined temperature and time conditions, typically 140°F for 15 minutes, with strict controls to maintain consistency and prevent contamination.

This ultrasonic cleaning process is commonly applied to elastomer components such as O-rings and gaskets, as well as precision plastic and metal parts, to ensure cleanliness for high-performance or regulated applications. Ultrasonic cleaning uses high frequency sound waves to create cavitation bubbles that effectively remove embedded and surface particulates without damaging sensitive materials. The process is widely used in industries such as aerospace, medical, semiconductor, and food processing where cleanliness standards are critical. When combined with cleanroom handling, inspection, and controlled packaging, ultrasonic cleaning helps ensure parts meet strict quality and contamination requirements.
