Aromatic fuel 50%, also referred to as 50% aromatic hydrocarbon fuel blend or high-aromatic fuel mixture, is a petroleum-based fuel formulation containing approximately fifty percent aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene, xylene, and related compounds. Aromatics are added to improve octane rating, combustion efficiency, and engine performance. In chemical compatibility evaluations, 50% aromatic fuel blends should be carefully reviewed against rubber O-rings and gaskets, as aromatic hydrocarbons can cause swelling, softening, or degradation in certain rubber materials. Exposure to aromatic fuel vapors may result in respiratory irritation or skin effects, making proper storage, ventilation, PPE, and material selection critical to protect equipment and ensure reliable performance of O-rings, rubber seals, and gaskets.
