DIETHANOLAMINE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Diethanolamine, often abbreviated as DEA, is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a mild odor and the chemical formula C4H11NO2. It is widely used as a surfactant, corrosion inhibitor, and intermediate in chemical manufacturing and industrial processing. Although considered relatively low in acute toxicity, diethanolamine can cause skin and respiratory irritation with exposure. When reviewing compatibility, O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components should be evaluated carefully, as amine compounds may affect certain rubber materials over time. Proper handling and storage practices are recommended.
