FURFURAL Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics

Furfural, also known as furaldehyde with the formula C5H4O2, is a colorless to yellow organic liquid with a mild odor used as a solvent, in resin manufacturing, and as an intermediate in chemical synthesis. In processing systems, furfural may contact O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components, so compatibility should be evaluated to reduce the risk of swelling or degradation. Although considered relatively low in toxicity, exposure may cause skin and respiratory irritation. Proper storage, safe handling practices, and appropriate PPE are recommended.
