Ligroin, also called petroleum ether or benzine, is a volatile mixture of light hydrocarbons widely used as a solvent for oils, fats, and resins in industrial and laboratory processes. It is commonly used in chemical extraction, coatings, adhesives, and cleaning formulations. Because of its strong solvent properties, compatibility with O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components should be evaluated to prevent swelling or material degradation. Ligroin is highly flammable and may cause skin, eye, or respiratory irritation, so proper storage, ventilation, handling procedures, and appropriate PPE are recommended.
