LIGROIN (PETROLEUM ETHER OR BENZENE) Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics

Ligroin, also known as petroleum ether, benzine, or light petroleum solvent, is a volatile mixture of low boiling hydrocarbons widely used as a solvent for oils, fats, and resins in industrial and laboratory applications. It is commonly used in chemical extraction, coatings, adhesives, and cleaning formulations. Because of its strong solvent properties, compatibility with O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components should be evaluated to prevent swelling or material degradation. Ligroin is highly flammable and may cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation, so proper storage, ventilation, handling procedures, and appropriate PPE are recommended.
