DuPont™ Kalrez® 6221 (KP6221) is a 70 Shore A white perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) specifically engineered for pharmaceutical, biotech, and food handling applications where ultra-low extractables, chemical purity, and regulatory compliance are critical. Fully compliant with FDA requirements and USP Class VI <87> and <88>, this material delivers exceptional resistance to aggressive water systems such as Water for Injection (WFI), ozonated deionized water, and repeated Steam-in-Place (SIP) cleaning cycles. With a maximum continuous service temperature of 260°C (500°F), Kalrez® 6221 maintains mechanical integrity and sealing performance during high-temperature sterilization processes where many elastomers fail. Its fully saturated perfluoroelastomer backbone provides PTFE-like chemical resistance while retaining the elasticity required for reliable O-ring and gasket sealing.

 

Kalrez® 6221 is commonly used for O-rings and sanitary gaskets in pharmaceutical processing equipment, sterile fluid transfer systems, clean utilities, and food production lines where contamination control is paramount. The compound exhibits extremely low to non-detectable extractables, low swell, and minimal loss of physical properties after repeated steam and water exposure, helping reduce downtime and product risk. This material is a preferred choice for critical sealing points in regulated environments requiring long service life and validation support.
