DuPont™ Kalrez® Spectrum™ 0040 (KP0040) is a 70 Shore A black perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) specifically engineered for low-temperature sealing applications that still require strong chemical resistance. Unlike most FFKM materials, it maintains elasticity and sealing performance down to -42°C (-43.6°F), making it well suited for cold environments where conventional perfluoroelastomers become brittle. Kalrez® Spectrum™ 0040 offers chemical resistance comparable to broader-spectrum grades such as Kalrez® 6375, with controlled volume swell and reliable compression set behavior at elevated temperatures. With a maximum recommended service temperature of 220°C (428°F), it provides a balanced combination of low-temperature flexibility and high-temperature chemical durability.

 

This material is commonly used in O-rings and gaskets for semiconductor equipment, chemical transport couplings, and process systems exposed to aggressive media in cold operating conditions. Its performance makes it suitable for applications involving acids such as nitric acid, solvents, and mixed chemical environments where both elasticity and chemical stability are critical. Kalrez® Spectrum™ 0040 is frequently selected for low-temperature semiconductor and chemical processing seals where standard FFKM grades are unsuitable.
