DuPont™ Kalrez® 6230 (KP6230) is a 75 Shore A black perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) developed for pharmaceutical, biotech, and food handling applications that demand FDA compliance, ultra-low extractables, and long-term chemical stability. Designed for aggressive water systems, it performs exceptionally in Water for Injection (WFI), ozonated deionized water, and repeated Steam-in-Place (SIP) cleaning cycles, maintaining low swell and stable mechanical properties. With a maximum continuous service temperature of 260°C (500°F), Kalrez® 6230 supports Stage II sterilization processes where many elastomers lose sealing capability. Its fully saturated FFKM backbone provides PTFE-like chemical resistance while retaining the elasticity needed for reliable O-ring and gasket sealing.

 

Kalrez® 6230 is commonly used in sanitary O-rings and gaskets for clean utilities, sterile fluid transfer, pharmaceutical processing equipment, and food production systems where contamination control and validation support are critical. The compound exhibits very low to non-detectable extractables in aggressive water environments and excellent compression set resistance after repeated steam exposure. This material is selected when black FFKM is preferred over white alternatives while maintaining FDA-compliant, high-purity performance.
