Parker’s N1090-85 is an 85 Shore A black carboxylated nitrile rubber (XNBR) compound formulated for pneumatic and industrial sealing applications that require enhanced wear resistance, low friction, and stable mechanical performance. The carboxylated nitrile chemistry improves abrasion resistance and strength compared to standard NBR, while internal lubrication helps reduce friction, ease installation, and extend seal life in dynamic service. With a service temperature range of -25°F to 225°F, N1090-85 performs reliably in petroleum-based oils, water up to 212°F, salt and alkali solutions, and weak acids. Its higher durometer provides improved extrusion resistance and dimensional stability for demanding pneumatic and pressure-assisted sealing environments.
N1090-85 is commonly used for O-rings and gaskets in pneumatic cylinders, air handling systems, valves, and industrial automation equipment where wear resistance and smooth operation are critical. It is not recommended for aromatic fuels, strong acids, glycols, ozone exposure, or polar solvents. This internally lubricated XNBR compound offers a practical solution for applications that benefit from reduced friction and increased durability without moving to more costly specialty elastomers. Canyon Components offers equivalent carboxylated and internally lubricated nitrile materials designed to match the performance profile of Parker N1090-85.
