Aflas® (FEPM) Selection Guide
FEPM (Aflas, or TFE/P) compounds, like fluorocarbons, contain high amounts of fluorine for increased fluid resistance and high temperature capabilities. The ethylene base in FEPM compounds, O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts gives high resistance to steam, hot water, atmospheric wear, and many chemicals. FEPM compounds, O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts provide superior performance in water, steam and virtually all caustic chemicals making them ideal for pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers that use steam and caustics in the sterilization process. FEPM O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts also provide excellent performance in SIP (steam in place), CIP (clean in place) and WFI (water for injection) applications. FEPM O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts are widely used in the oil exploration and drilling industry due to the materials excellent steam and H2S resistance.

Features of Aflas®
- Aflas® O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts have excellent water and steam resistance up to 400°F (204°C)
- Aflas® O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts have excellent resistance to caustic chemicals
- Aflas® O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts have excellent resistance to ozone, weather, and aging
- Aflas® O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts have excellent resistance to engine oils and other aggressive automotive lubricants
- Aflas® O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts have are highly resistant to acids and bases
- Aflas® O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts have good resistance to amines and H2S
- Aflas® O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts are available in multiple compounds to meet performance and cost requirements
Limitations of Aflas®
- Aflas® O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts have poor resistance to aromatic fuels, ketones, carbon tetrachloride
- Aflas® O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts exhibit poor mechanical properties at low temperatures
- Aflas® O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts have a Service Temperature Range of (varies with application): 23°F to 450°F (-5°C to 232°C)
