ETHANOL AMINE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Ethanolamine, commonly called monoethanolamine or MEA and identified by the formula C2H7NO, is a colorless to pale yellow liquid widely used as a surfactant, chemical intermediate, and processing aid in many industrial operations. In equipment where ethanolamine may contact O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components, compatibility should be evaluated to prevent swelling or degradation of sealing materials. Although generally considered relatively low in acute toxicity, exposure may irritate the skin and respiratory system. Proper storage, safe handling practices, and appropriate PPE are recommended.
