DuPont™ Kalrez® 0090 (KP0090) is a 95 Shore A black perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) engineered for severe oil and gas service where rapid gas decompression (RGD) resistance, high hardness, and extrusion resistance are critical. Designed for high-pressure environments, it delivers outstanding RGD performance even without backup rings and maintains strong mechanical properties across a broad temperature range, with continuous service up to 250°C (482°F) and low-temperature capability to -21°C (-5.8°F), with demonstrated performance to -40°C under pressurized laboratory conditions. Kalrez® 0090 provides excellent chemical resistance to aggressive oil and gas media, including sour service with elevated H2S, while retaining low compression set and dimensional stability under load. The combination of high modulus, high durometer, and verified RGD performance makes it well suited for pressure-cycling applications where conventional elastomers fail.

 

Kalrez® 0090 is commonly used in O-rings and gaskets for downhole tools, drilling and completion equipment, subsea systems, pumps, valves, and compressors operating in HPHT environments. It is certified to ISO 23936-2 and tested to NORSOK M-710 Rev. 2 for both RGD and sour gas chemical aging, achieving the highest RGD rating with no cracks or blisters, and is also certified to TOTAL GS PVV 142. This material is selected when long-term reliability, RGD safety, and chemical durability are mandatory in oil and gas sealing systems. Canyon Components offers equivalent FFKM materials designed to meet similar AED, NORSOK, and HPHT performance requirements for demanding energy and industrial sealing applications.
