Parker VG286-85 is an 85 shore A black FKM compound engineered for demanding sealing applications requiring resistance to rapid gas decompression, extrusion, and aggressive fuels. This material is designed to perform in O-rings and gaskets used in oil and gas, automotive, and aerospace systems, offering excellent compatibility with fuels including biodiesel while maintaining strong chemical resistance and low compression set. It delivers reliable low temperature sealing performance down to approximately -44°C, along with high temperature capability up to 205°C, making it suitable for wide thermal cycling environments. VG286-85 can be compared to GLT-type materials like VM835-75, with improved fuel resistance and reduced swell in aggressive fuel media.

 

FKM, commonly referred to as Viton®, is a high performance fluoroelastomer widely used in O-rings and gaskets where resistance to fuels, oils, and elevated temperatures is essential. Advanced FKM formulations like VG286 are designed to balance low temperature flexibility with strong fuel compatibility, addressing a common limitation in traditional GLT compounds. These materials are commonly used in oil and gas, automotive fuel systems, and aerospace applications where exposure to aggressive fuels and pressure cycling is expected. While highly versatile, FKM materials are generally not recommended for hot water, steam, or certain polar solvents, making proper material selection critical for long-term performance.
