
Viton™ Type A (Standard FKM Fluorocarbon Elastomer)
Viton™ Type A is the most widely used fluorocarbon elastomer and serves as the baseline material for many FKM O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts. It provides an excellent balance of chemical resistance, mechanical properties, and temperature performance, making it a go-to choice for a broad range of industrial sealing applications.
Viton™ Type A O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts exhibit strong resistance to fuels, oils, lubricants, ozone, weathering, and many chemicals commonly encountered in automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, and general industrial systems. While it does not offer the extended low-temperature performance of specialty grades like Viton™ GLT or the extreme chemical resistance of Viton™ ETP, Viton™ Type A delivers reliable, cost-effective sealing performance across a wide operating range.

Limitations of Viton™ Type A
- Viton™ Type A O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts have poor resistance to hot water and superheated steam
- Viton™ Type A O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are not recommended for amines, ketones, or polar solvents
- Viton™ Type A O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are not compatible with ammonia gas or low molecular weight organic acids
- Viton™ Type A O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts typically have a service temperature range of -15°F to 437°F (-26°C to 225°C), depending on compound and application

Viton™ Type A is considered the standard fluorocarbon elastomer for many sealing applications and is often the first material evaluated when chemical resistance and temperature capability are required.
