Viton™ Type XLT (Extreme Low Temperature Fluorocarbon Elastomer)

Viton™ Type XLT is a specialty low-temperature fluorocarbon elastomer engineered to provide exceptional flexibility and sealing performance at extremely low temperatures, while maintaining the chemical resistance and durability expected from FKM materials. Viton™ XLT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are specifically designed for applications where conventional FKM compounds lose elasticity or sealing force in cold environments.


Viton™ Type XLT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts extend the low-temperature capability of fluorocarbon elastomers beyond standard GLT and GFLT grades, making them ideal for applications exposed to severe cold, rapid temperature cycling, and outdoor or high-altitude conditions. While XLT does not offer the same high-fluorine chemical resistance as some specialty FKM types, its extreme low-temperature performance makes it indispensable in cold-service sealing applications.

Limitations of Viton™ Type XLT

  • Viton™ Type XLT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts have lower chemical resistance than high-fluorine FKM grades such as Type ETP


  • Viton™ Type XLT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are not recommended for strong amines, ketones, or highly polar solvents


  • Viton™ Type XLT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts have poor resistance to hot water and superheated steam


  • Viton™ Type XLT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts typically have a service temperature range of -54°F to 437°F (-48°C to 225°C), depending on compound and application
