Viton™ Type B (High Fluorine Fluorocarbon Elastomer)

Viton™ Type B is a higher fluorine-content fluorocarbon elastomer developed to provide improved chemical resistance compared to standard Viton™ Type A compounds. By increasing the fluorine level in the polymer backbone, Viton™ Type B O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts offer enhanced resistance to fuels, oils, and aggressive hydrocarbons while maintaining strong mechanical performance.


Viton™ Type B O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are widely used in applications where standard FKM materials approach their chemical resistance limits but where extreme specialty compounds such as Viton™ ETP are not required. This makes Type B an excellent middle-ground material for demanding sealing environments that require greater fluid resistance without significant cost escalation.

Limitations of Viton™ Type B

  • Viton™ Type B O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts have poor resistance to hot water and superheated steam


  • Viton™ Type B O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are not recommended for amines, ketones, or polar solvents


  • Viton™ Type B O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are not compatible with ammonia gas or low molecular weight organic acids


  • Viton™ Type B O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts typically have a service temperature range of -11°F to 437°F (-24°C to 225°C), depending on compound and application

Viton™ Type B is commonly selected when applications demand greater chemical resistance than standard FKM but do not require the extreme performance of specialized fluorocarbon chemistries. It is especially valuable in systems exposed to aggressive fuels, lubricants, and hydrocarbon mixtures.
