Viton™ Type ULT (Ultra-Low Temperature Fluorocarbon Elastomer)

Viton™ Type ULT is an ultra-low temperature fluorocarbon elastomer engineered for sealing applications that must operate reliably in extreme cold environments while still maintaining the chemical resistance, mechanical strength, and heat stability expected of FKM materials. Viton™ Type ULT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are specifically formulated to remain flexible at temperatures well below the limits of standard FKM, GLT, and GFLT compounds.

Canyon Components’ VT90BK58 is an ultra-low temperature, 90 Shore A black terpolymer FKM Type ULT compound developed for high-performance O-rings and gaskets operating in severe cold conditions. This compound retains flexibility down to -61°C (-78°F) while delivering strong tensile strength and improved extrusion resistance for high-pressure sealing applications. VT90BK58 provides dependable performance in environments where conventional FKM compounds may harden, lose elasticity, or fail prematurely.


Viton™ Type ULT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are well suited for both static and dynamic sealing applications that demand a precise balance of ultra-low temperature elasticity, chemical stability, and long-term durability. Additional FKM types are available including A, B, F, GF, GLT, GFLT, ULT, and ETP to support a wide range of sealing requirements.

Limitations of Viton™ Type ULT

  • Viton™ Type ULT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts have reduced chemical resistance compared to high-fluorine FKM grades such as Type F, GF, or ETP


  • Viton™ Type ULT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are not recommended for strong amines, ketones, or highly polar solvents


  • Viton™ Type ULT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts have poor resistance to hot water and superheated steam


  • Viton™ Type ULT O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts typically have a service temperature range of -78°F to 437°F (-61°C to 225°C), depending on compound and application
