QPL-Listed Viton™ for the Military and Aerospace Industry
QPL-listed Viton™ (FKM) fluorocarbon elastomers are used in the military and aerospace industry for manufacturing O-rings, gaskets, seals, and custom molded parts that must meet explicit Qualified Products List (QPL) requirements. QPL listing indicates that a specific material formulation, manufacturer, and processing method has been tested, reviewed, and approved for use on regulated defense and aerospace programs.
QPL-listed Viton™ O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts are commonly specified in aircraft fuel systems, hydraulic systems, missile and defense hardware, environmental control systems, and ground support equipment, where material substitution is not permitted without formal re-qualification. These materials provide excellent resistance to aviation fuels, hydraulic fluids, lubricants, and environmental exposure while ensuring program-level compliance and traceability.
Canyon Components supports customers working under QPL-controlled requirements by sourcing, cross-referencing, and manufacturing Viton™ materials that align with approved QPL listings, documentation needs, and supply chain controls. What Are QPL-Listed Elastomer Materials?
QPL-listed elastomer materials are sealing compounds that have been formally evaluated, tested, and approved by a governing authority for use under a specific military or aerospace specification. Unlike general MIL-Spec or AMS materials, QPL-listed products are locked to an approved manufacturer, formulation, and process, ensuring consistency and repeatability across production.
Common Considerations for QPL-Listed Elastomers
- Approved Source Control: Only listed manufacturers and formulations are permitted
- Material Traceability: Full lot-level traceability from raw material to finished part
- No Substitution: Changes require engineering change approval and re-qualification
- Documentation: Certificates of Conformance, QPL references, and test data are mandatory
- Program Compliance: Required for many defense, missile, and aerospace contracts
- Long-Term Availability: Material lifecycle and continuity planning are critical
Key Standards Related to QPL-Listed Viton™
- QPL (Qualified Products List): The Qualified Products List identifies specific materials and manufacturers approved to meet the requirements of a given military or aerospace specification. Viton™ compounds may be QPL-listed under various elastomer and seal specifications where performance consistency is critical.
- MIL-DTL and MIL-PRF Specifications: Many QPL listings originate from MIL-DTL or MIL-PRF documents that define elastomer performance, environmental resistance, and qualification testing.
- Program-Specific Requirements: Certain aerospace and defense programs impose additional requirements beyond the base QPL, including extended testing, documentation retention, and controlled change management.
