Limitations of AMS-Spec Viton™


  • Viton™ O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded parts have poor resistance to hot water and superheated steam


  • Viton™ materials are not recommended for strong amines, ketones, or highly polar solvents unless specialty grades are specified


  • Viton™ compounds are not compatible with ammonia gas or strong inorganic bases


  • AMS-Spec Viton™ materials typically have a service temperature range up to 437°F (225°C), depending on compound


  • Certain aerospace applications may require fluorosilicone, FFKM, or PTFE instead of FKM

AMS-Spec elastomer materials are sealing compounds governed by Aerospace Material Specifications that define requirements for composition, processing, performance, and quality control. Unlike general industrial elastomers, AMS materials are produced to meet aerospace-specific expectations for consistency, traceability, and qualification.

Fluorosilicone (FVMQ)

Fluorosilicone O-rings and gaskets are commonly manufactured to AMS specifications for aerospace fuel and hydraulic systems. They combine low temperature flexibility with resistance to aviation fuels, solvents, and synthetic lubricants.

Silicone O-rings, gaskets, and custom parts for biocompatibility, flexibility, and high and low temperature sealing in medical, food processing, and aerospace applications.
Silicone (VMQ, PVMQ)

Silicone O-rings and gaskets are produced to AMS material standards for high temperature sealing, electrical insulation, and environmental exposure. They provide excellent flexibility and stability in aerospace applications.

EPDM O-rings, gaskets, and custom parts for excellent steam, water, and weather resistance in food processing, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications.
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene)

EPDM O-rings and gaskets may be specified for aerospace systems involving steam, glycol based fluids, ozone, and environmental sealing where hydrocarbon resistance is not required.
