Limitations of Parker Hannifin Butyl Materials

  • Butyl rubber has poor compatibility with petroleum oils, fuels, and hydrocarbon based lubricants


  • These compounds generally provide lower abrasion resistance compared to HNBR or polyurethane materials


  • Butyl elastomers may not perform well in applications involving aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons


  • High temperature capability is lower than many FKM, FFKM, and Silicone compounds


  • Dynamic sealing applications involving aggressive wear conditions may require more mechanically durable elastomers


  • Not all Butyl compounds are suitable for continuous exposure to aggressive solvents or fuel systems
