Parker Hannifin HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) Elastomers
Parker Hannifin HNBR elastomer materials are designed for demanding sealing applications requiring excellent mechanical strength, elevated temperature resistance, abrasion resistance, and compatibility with oils, fuels, and industrial fluids. HNBR, also known as Hydrogenated Nitrile Rubber or HSN, is commonly used in O-rings, gaskets, hydraulic seals, pneumatic seals, custom molded rubber parts, diaphragms, and high performance sealing systems operating in severe industrial environments. These materials are widely specified in oil and gas systems, automotive systems, hydraulic equipment, refrigerant systems, aerospace equipment, and industrial machinery where durability and long-term sealing reliability are critical.
Canyon Components supplies high quality equivalents to many Parker HNBR elastomer compounds used throughout industrial and automotive sealing systems. Our team supports replacement O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded sealing components manufactured from HNBR compounds for high pressure, elevated temperature, and dynamic sealing applications. We also provide engineering support for material selection, explosive decompression resistance, and fluid compatibility analysis.
Common names include: HNBR rubber, Hydrogenated Nitrile Rubber, HSN elastomer, high performance nitrile
Trade names include: Parker®, HNBR, HSN

Limitations of Parker Hannifin HNBR Materials
- HNBR materials generally provide lower resistance to aromatic hydrocarbons and aggressive solvents compared to FKM or FFKM compounds
- These compounds may not be suitable for strong acids, ketones, esters, or chlorinated hydrocarbons
- Certain HNBR materials may have limited flexibility at extremely low temperatures compared to Silicone or Fluorosilicone compounds
- Continuous steam exposure may reduce service life depending on temperature and compound formulation
- HNBR compounds are typically more expensive than standard Nitrile materials
- Not all HNBR compounds are suitable for prolonged exposure to ozone without proper formulation enhancements
