Limitations of Parker Hannifin Steam Resistant Materials
- Steam exposure can significantly shorten the life of many standard FKM and Nitrile compounds
- Continuous superheated steam exposure can accelerate compression set and hardening in many elastomer materials
- Silicone compounds may experience degradation in superheated steam environments above recommended limits
- Certain steam resistant compounds may require careful gland design to compensate for thermal expansion and swelling
- Over-specifying high performance FFKM materials may unnecessarily increase cost in moderate steam applications where EPDM performs effectively
