Parker Hannifin Anti-RGD and Explosive Decompression Resistant Materials
Parker Hannifin anti-RGD materials are engineered for sealing applications exposed to rapid gas decompression, explosive decompression, high pressure gases, and aggressive oil and gas environments. These elastomer compounds are commonly used in O-rings, gaskets, backup rings, custom molded parts, valve seals, packer seals, and pressure control equipment operating in high pressure gas systems. Anti-RGD materials are designed to resist internal blistering, cracking, extrusion, and structural damage caused by rapid decompression of trapped gases within the elastomer matrix.
Canyon Components supplies high quality equivalents to many Parker anti-RGD and explosive decompression resistant elastomer compounds for oil and gas, hydrogen, aerospace, energy, and industrial sealing systems. Our team supports replacement O-rings, gaskets, and custom sealing components manufactured from FKM, HNBR, AFLAS®, and FFKM materials designed for demanding high pressure gas applications. We also provide engineering support for NORSOK M-710, NACE TM0297, API 6A, and sour gas sealing requirements.
Common names include: Anti-RGD elastomers, explosive decompression resistant materials, AED resistant compounds, rapid gas decompression seals
Trade names include: Parker®, Viton™, AFLAS®, HNBR, Canrez®, Parofluor™

Features of Parker Hannifin Anti-RGD Materials
- These materials are commonly used in high pressure gas systems involving CO2, methane, hydrogen, natural gas, and sour gas exposure
- Explosive decompression resistant compounds provide improved mechanical stability under pressure cycling and decompression events
- Many anti-RGD materials provide strong extrusion resistance for high pressure O-ring and gasket applications
- High hardness FKM and HNBR compounds are commonly used to improve decompression resistance and extrusion resistance
- Certain AFLAS® and FFKM compounds provide excellent resistance to aggressive chemicals, amines, steam, and sour gas environments
- Canyon Components supplies equivalent anti-RGD sealing materials with strong availability, engineering support, and rapid lead times
Limitations of Parker Hannifin Anti-RGD Materials
- Anti-RGD compounds are typically harder materials and may generate higher installation force and increased friction in dynamic applications
- High hardness compounds may have reduced low temperature flexibility compared to softer elastomers
- Not all anti-RGD compounds are suitable for continuous steam or aggressive chemical exposure
- Over-specifying anti-RGD materials in low pressure or non-gas applications may unnecessarily increase cost
- Even high performance anti-RGD materials can fail if decompression rates exceed system design limits

Industrial Applications for Anti-RGD Materials
Explosive decompression resistant elastomers are widely used in systems involving high pressure gases and rapid pressure changes. These materials are commonly installed in subsea equipment, oilfield systems, compressors, valves, pumps, hydrogen systems, gas processing equipment, and aerospace systems. Material selection depends on gas type, pressure range, decompression rate, temperature, and sealing geometry.
Canyon Components supports oil and gas, energy, aerospace, hydrogen, and industrial customers with Parker equivalent anti-RGD O-rings, gaskets, and custom molded sealing components. Parker explosive decompression resistant material information can be referenced in the Parker material offering guide and Parker O-Ring Handbook.
